Maybe I’ve missed something here, but the name Gum Drop Celestial Frontier initially had me thinking “what the heck”, but then after viewing the video for it, I knew that this would be a good game.
Gum Drop Celestial Frontier is a top down space shooter with a difference, there is no shooter bit!! The objective is to clear the level of enemies by smashing them using a big ball (S.M.A.S.H) that is attached to your ship. You additionally have the option of releasing the S.M.A.S.H, so that it follows you around, but personally I preferred to swing it around the place.
Your ship also comes equipped with a grappling beam which enables you to grab hold of enemy ships, or floating Gum Drops and swing them about the place too. If you grab hold of a Gum Drops, you can also return it to your base ship (which you must ensure that you also protect from the attacking enemy ships) to get additional powerups.
Gum Drop Celestial Frontier comes with two modes, one featuring 20 different levels and the other being an survival mode when you just keep on smashing to your heart’s content. There are also four different difficulty levels, consisting of Easy, Normal, Hardcore and Insane. There are also separate high score tables for each level and various game statistics.
Personally, I’m really glad to have been contacted by the developer for a review as Gum Drop Celestial Frontier is in my opinion one of the more fun and original Xbox Live Indie Games available. Well done to Elbert Perez and his team for a job well done.
