You will Die… Well, let me tell you I did and often! You will Die is a space based dual stick shooter which pits you against a lone ever increasing in size enemy ship – this may sound a bit confusing, but allow me to explain:
On the first level, the enemy ship starts off with a single section and a single gun. You have to first destroy its weaponry, then the ships itself. As you progress more sections get added onto the enemy as well as more weaponry. It is important that you destroy each of the weapons on a section prior to starting you attack on the section itself as until such time as the weaponry is destroyed the section cannot take any damage.
Another point worth mentioning is that the sections farthest from the centre are the weakest. To help you out, you have shields, which though very useful, using the shield depletes your multiplier and score. You can also use your gained points to repair your ship which is somewhat important, especially considering you only have one life. You will Die has been well put together and plays very much like your typical arcade style space shooter – remembering, it has been a few years since I’ve been in a video games arcade!
One thing I noticed, which kinda irritated me was that this morning when I played it I had a nice highscore, which was on both the global and “your high score” score boards, but this evening, when I loaded up the game to play again, I notice that I am not in the top 50 in the global boards, which is all well and good, but my “your high score” score has disappeared! Not sure what was going on here, but just because I dropped of the global board, I didn’t expect my local score board to clear. Possibly they both share the same board?
Just noticed another thing whilst typing up this review and that is do not hit the back button during play as it throws you totally out of the game (this only happens with controller one), not exit confirmation, nothing. Me thinks the developer left in the following default code:
// Allows the game to exit
if (GamePad.GetState(PlayerIndex.One).Buttons.Back == ButtonState.Pressed)
Not too sure how this made it past the reviewers……
Anyway, besides these two fixable faults, which I’m sure the developer is currently working on, I found You will Die to be a pretty good dual stick shooter, though a bit tough for my poor skill level, so if you like tough dual stick shooters, why not give You will Die a go?
I rate it a
